What a Bank of America export looks like

Only the first three header names are documented in the source; the summary lines in the sample are made up to show the shape. The tool skips everything above the real header automatically. Not affiliated with Bank of America.

How it maps to Actual Budget

Dates in the converted file: ISO YYYY-MM-DD. In Actual's import screen you can pick the date format to match the file and confirm the green interpreted date.

Import into Actual Budget

  1. Open the account in Actual and press Import.
  2. Select the converted file and choose the CSV option.
  3. Pick the column for each field (Date, Payee, Notes, Amount). Check the green date that shows how Actual read the date, and change the date format if it is wrong.
  4. Leave "Flip amount" and "Split amount into separate inflow/outflow columns" off, then import.

Sources: Actual Budget docs: Importing transactions. Actual's documentation lists CSV, QIF, OFX, QFX and CAMT as supported files, notes the options Flip amount, Split amount into separate inflow/outflow columns and a delimiter setting, and says to adjust the date format if the green date looks wrong. Questions about Bank of America and Actual Budget

Should I tick "Flip amount" in Actual? Normally no. The converted file already has purchases as negative amounts. Only use it if the preview in Actual shows them reversed.

Why ISO dates for Actual? They cannot be misread as day-first or month-first, and Actual lets you choose a matching date format on the import screen.

FAQ

Is my bank data uploaded?

No. The converter is JavaScript running in your browser tab. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.

Which banks work?

Any bank that exports CSV. Dates, delimiters (comma, semicolon, tab), European number formats, separate debit/credit columns, headerless files and extra summary rows are handled, and you can override the column mapping.

What about ambiguous dates like 03/04/2024?

If every date could be day-first or month-first, the tool warns you and lets you pick the order before downloading.

Is this affiliated with any bank, Intuit, Xero or YNAB?

No. Names are used only to describe which file layout or import format is meant.
