What a Capital One export looks like

Capital One may change the layout; if a column does not map right, change it in the dropdowns. Not affiliated with Capital One.

How it maps to Xero

Dates in the converted file: DD/MM/YYYY by default (UK, Australia, New Zealand order). If your Xero organisation uses US dates, choose "Xero, US date order" in the Import into list and you get MM/DD/YYYY.

Import into Xero

  1. In Xero, go to Accounting, then Bank accounts, and open the account.
  2. Choose Import a Statement (some versions word it "Manually import a statement") and browse to the converted file.
  3. Check the column mapping Xero shows (Date, Amount, Payee, Description, Reference), then review the preview.
  4. Save, then map payee names and categorise the transactions in reconciliation.

Xero's own help pages could not be reached, so these steps come from two third-party guides. One of them says date order is the most common cause of Xero import errors and lists US dates as MM/DD/YYYY and UK/AU/NZ dates as DD/MM/YYYY. Check against Xero Central if a step looks different on your account. Not affiliated with Xero.

FAQ

Is my bank data uploaded?

No. The converter is JavaScript running in your browser tab. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.

Which banks work?

Any bank that exports CSV. Dates, delimiters (comma, semicolon, tab), European number formats, separate debit/credit columns, headerless files and extra summary rows are handled, and you can override the column mapping.

What about ambiguous dates like 03/04/2024?

If every date could be day-first or month-first, the tool warns you and lets you pick the order before downloading.

Is this affiliated with any bank, Intuit, Xero or YNAB?

No. Names are used only to describe which file layout or import format is meant.
